Would you rather be a good manager or a great leader?
As a leader, you have the power and opportunity to influence others and set great example. Create a world of trust, optimism, enjoyment and personal growth. Encourage and motivate as you create leaders in others.
Discover 12 ways to move from being a good manager to being a great leader:
Your word is your truth – know that when you speak, you will fulfill your promise to others and they can depend on you.
Have a ‘can do’ attitude – Be cheerful and pleasant with an attitude of turning obstacles into opportunities. See the cup as half full instead of half empty
Remember to say ‘thank you’ - Acknowledge the people around you when they’ve done something worth acknowledging.
Practice the #1 rule of business – Remember to treat people as “they” want to be treated, not as you would like to be treated. This could be a big difference.
Motivate others around you – develop a strong interest in your staff and others around you.
Empower and encourage others you know – Offer others public recognition and involve them in important work.
Share your vision and mission – Before you can get staff engaged in an activity to meet goals, share the vision and mission.
Think creatively and don’t stop at the obvious – Think about the different options available to you and envision possibilities of bigger and better ways to do things.
Risk Taking within reason by knowing high-risk and low-risk – Analyze risk. Know when risk taking is an intelligent move and when it shouldn’t be considered.
Stretch your creativity and encourage that in others - Continually stretch your creative powers by thinking outside the box.
Have a passion for what you do and create the sense of purpose – Display your passion for what you do. Combine your words to line up with your actions.
Create an environment of opportunity – Create an environment where you and others around you can grow. Move from obstacle to opportunity.
