  1. Check In

  2. Clarify Your Career Path

    1. Some of us feel called to serve by helping heal others physically or emotionally
    2. Others may feel a strong urge to serve by teaching, educating, coaching and inspiring others
    3. Some may feel a need to serve by improving living conditions on earth through science and research
    4. Others may feel they can serve best by expressing the beauty of creation through art, literature or music.
    5. Some have the urge to bring justice and fairness by exercising leadership in our society

  3. Knowing Yourself

The one thing that that's hard for many people is to recall their key inner strengths and skills. The lack of awareness is often the cause for our self-doubt and our habit of worrying whenever there is uncertainty. It can prevent us, as well, from achieving our full potential as human beings.

The difference between inner strength and skills:

    • Inner Strength
      • I define inner strength as a personal quality that we were born with or have developed. This quality is now part of our make-up. Inner strengths will typically start with the word "being". Example inner strengths include:
        • Being organized
        • Being creative
        • Being understanding
        • Being optimistic
        • Being enthusiastic
        • Being imaginative
        • Being efficient
        • Being thorough
    • Skills
      • Skills denote an outward quality or specialized knowledge. Skills typically start with words such as "ability to" or "knowledge of". Example skills include:
        • Ability to supervise
        • Ability to analyze problems
        • Ability to negotiate
        • Ability to problem solve
        • Ability to coordinate
        • Ability to organize
        • Knowledge of labor laws
        • Knowledge of automobile insurance regulations
    • Special Gifts and Motivators
    • By identifying your key inner strengths, skills, special gifts and motivators you are able to include these in our

  4. Simplifying Your Life

    • Think about your values and write down those that really matter to you
    • What are the list of goals you have and when do you expect to achieve them?
    • Say "no" instead of "yes" when you don't have time or don't really want to do things
    • Stop being a slave to communication tools like email, cell phones, pagers, faxes
    • Give away clerical tasks to others to gain more 'space' in your life
    • Stop spending time to save money. Instead, spend money to save time.
    • Cancel subscriptions to magazines you never get around to reading
    • Cut back on television time if it cuts into family or work time
    • Clean the area around your desk or other areas that are draining your energy
    • Quit organizations that are not giving you the results you want or need
    • Make plans for the weekends that don't involve work. Spend more time with family and friends
    • Carry a small wallet or purse. What don't you need that you carry with you all the time.
    • Make time for yourself each week i.e. massage, haircut, manicure, reading, laughing with friends
    • Take a moment each day to be grateful
    • Keep a journal on all the great things that happened to you each day

  5. Focus on Solutions

What situations in your life can you think of where you focus on all of the problems and issues? Is it possible you've lost site of looking for solutions.
If so much time is spent on problems, worry and stress, there is no room for answers.
Often, the most and best energy of a person get's focused on the reasons why they cannot obtain the results they want
Misdirected focus goes on everyday to varying degrees.

    A problem orientation:
    • Puts a spotlight on what is not working - on what is wrong
    • Looks for someone to blame
    • Causes defensiveness
    • Stifles creatively
    • Causes more problems as attention is drawn to the problems that already exists
    • Drains off valuable energy
    • Keeps us stuck in boxes

    Solution orientation
    • Puts the spotlight on strengthening what is already working
    • Develops openness and involvement
    • Naturally moves us toward the goal it is focused upon Creates energy and enthusiasm
    • Creates energy and enthusiasm
    • Creates open communication and continues renewal
    • Develops the atmosphere best suited for generating creative solutions

How much more effective would you be if you approached personal and work by focusing on the desired results consistently rather than focusing on the problems or reasons they cannot achieve the results?

Where could you have the most immediate impact by shifting where you focus your attention?

What would be the benefits to you to make this shift?

What is one thing you can do today to begin causing that shift to take place?

  6. Field Work

    1. Share with your buddy how you are going to simplify your life and what difference that made for you
    2. Discuss ways to stay focused on solutions instead of problems. Hold your buddy accountable
    3. Keep the positive energy going with communication and realize the self talk of today makes you what you will be tomorrow
