    Leadership Success Tips

    The Visionary Leader

A "Visionary Leader" creates a clear vision for the staff and organization. The clearer the vision, the more likely the goals will be reached. The following are strengths of an effective visionary leader:
    • An effective leader provides a clear direction through their vision, mission, values, goals and plans
    • They foster collaboration through team building, delegation, coaching and a good attitude
    • Effective leaders motivate achievement by providing feedback, support and recognition
    • An effective leader knows how to resolve conflicts before they get blown out of proportion

The Visionary Leader has the ability to share the vision, which is the ability to perceive the many possibilities that are available to the organization and to create a picture of where they want to be in the future.

The Visionary Leader generates the purpose and meaning plus the mental image of what they want to happen in the future. They share the importance, passion and excitement of the vision.

A Vision is important because it provides a context for decision-making. The bigger decisions in an organization should move the company forward toward achieving the vision. If the vision is not clear to everyone, how can it ever be reached?

    Vision statements should be:
    • Clear and easy to understand
    • Challenging but achievable
    • Inspiring to others as the goals are met
    • Easily communicated and simple to explain

When all this is in place, ask for commitment! People are more likely to follow through on verbal promises once they understand the direction, reason and benefits.

The vision is the place to start! It's almost like heading out on a long trip without a map. Unless you have a map, you could get lost or possibly never reach your destination.

    Quote
"The essence of leadership is a vision you articulate clearly and forcefully on every occasion. You can't blow an uncertain trumpet."
    --Theodore Hesburgh
